In late September I helped Lee Mackenzie stage the home below for the NARI tour (National Association of Remodeling Industry). It was just announced that Mackenzie Design Build was name contractor of the year for this amazing home. Check out Lee’s website at: www.mackenziedesignbuild.com.
The project is an 878 sq ft Kitchen and Master Suite addition to a 1,008 sq ft 1950’s bungalow, 800 sq ft of which was heavily remodeled. Also added was a 212 sq ft Craftsman-style front porch, 102 sq ft of decks in the Courtyard entertainment area, and a 384 sq ft Workshop at the back of the property. The front porch features structural riverstone columns (not rock veneer) with glass mosaic tile column caps, stone steps, and doweled, mortise and tenon joinery on the porch timber framing. The style morphs from the husband’s traditional Craftsman in the front to the wife’s more eclectic, colorful taste to the rear. The workshop has wonderful natural light from the opaque PolyGal sheathing used in the gables and extended top chord trusses which were braced with attention-grabbing struts. There is a high level of craftsmanship throughout the house.
